Parasite Image Competition!

To support the efforts of parasitology educators everywhere, the NCVP maintains a publicly available image database of hundreds of parasite images. In 2020 we would like to grow that resource, sharing even more and better photographs of parasites with the larger parasitology community. We definitely need your help and so are hosting a Parasite Image Competition. Details below – please consider entering and plan to enter early and often! (Up to 5 entries per person allowed.)

Up to 4 winners will be selected:
  • 1stPlace (also known as “Adult Place”)
  • 2ndPlace (also known as “Nymphal Place”)
  • 3rdPlace (also known as “Larval Place”)
  • People’s Choice Award (also known as “Egg Place”)

Prizes: Your choice of any one of several outstanding parasitology textbooks (when possible, autographed by the authors), a lovely certificate suitable for framing, public announcement at the AAVP meeting in 2020, and unlimited bragging rights!

  • Georgis’ Parasitology for Veterinarians by Dr. Dwight D. Bowman
  • Veterinary Clinical Parasitology by Dr. Anne M. Zajac and Dr. Gary A. Conboy
  • Handbook of Equine Parasite Control by Dr. Martin K. Nielsen and Dr. Craig R. Reinemeyer
  • Medical and Veterinary Entomology by Dr. Gary Mullen and Dr. Lance Durden

Images will be evaluated and prizes awarded by the NCVP Advisory Board, who reserves the right to make all assessments using whatever standards they feel appropriate. A People’s Choice Award (“Egg Place”) will also be selected by popular vote and open to the public.

If your image is selected to be featured on the website you will be given photo credit in whatever way you approve (name, institution, or watermark logo). NCVP images are freely available to all for educational use and include an NCVP logo as well as the logo of the originating institution.

This photo contest is for original images of veterinary parasites and is open to all*. Only original images will be accepted—no previously published or web photos, and no video. Images must be your own, and specimens must be correctly identified in the file name. An individual may submit up to 5 different images. Images should be of high quality (e.g.  4” x 6” and 300 ppi or greater) in either jpeg or png format.

Entries will be accepted until January 31, 2020and winners will be announced February 14, 2020.

We look forward to seeing your parasites!
